Are you confident other family members know the context of important photos?
Are you concerned your valuable family photos may be lost or historical photos disregarded as 'unknown'?
Following, will be a free link regarding tips on how to prevent this included in a photo tribute to my Uncle.
Ensure your family's heritage; get out the old photos, talk about them, their story and record the details. Each picture has a story to tell, as does each person and their collective family.
* Store photos in the right conditions - a cool, dry, dark place to prevent brittleness, mould and fading.
* Photos should be in an album or photo box. If you have important photos in one of those horrid old self-adhesive album which can't be lifted off without damage - have them scanned.
* Heritage photos - have copies made of those precious old photos to display (storing the original as above)
* Do not hold photos together with paperclips or rubber bands.
* Where possible, refrain from writing on photos as this often causes indentations. I bought a packet of address labels - I write details on the label such as date, who is in the picture etc before putting on the back of the photos.
I hope you find these tips helpful.

For over three decades I've been collecting, storing and collating family photos. I have also enjoyed designing family tree layouts and interviewing people for historical stories.
